The fields of corporate finance, investing and capital markets are subject to a varying dissonance between the level of knowledge reasonably expected to be acquired solely from undergraduate-level education and the insight into practical, institutional, real-world applications most privileged by prominent employers.
NIC-UD fosters this level of insight, fundamentally, through weekly rounds of activities designed to maximize its members’ familiarity with these fields. The development of morning calls (short presentations on current financial news) keeps members informed of relevant world events and ways of assimilating and synthesizing information to be analyzed, while stock and investment pitches normalize the bisection and analysis of companies and financial instruments. Deep dives on specific, business-related topics provide in-depth looks into both useful and interesting particularities or subtopics that can introduce members to whole new relevant and clever outlooks, fields, or even career possibilities, while market wraps, written round-ups of current financial news, further contribute to solidify one’s approach to analyzing the world around them as instinctive. Additionally, at NIC-UD, members collaborate on the monthly publication of its newsletter, NIC Undergrad Review (NUR), as well as on the analysis of the NIC-UD Fund's quarterly performance, which is published on a quarterly basis in the form of a report.
Just as fundamental as weekly activities is the systemic exposure to the job market. Networking events, internal workshops, and exchange sessions with prominent companies and NIC alumni are frequent, with the permanent support of the Buddy Program, which ensures ongoing bespoke counselling to members regarding their careers and corresponding internship and job applications, helping secure outcomes in particularly relevant firms, with Bain & Company, BCG, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, HSBC, and McKinsey & Company serving as past examples.
